Patient Reported Outcome (PROs)

MARCQI is working with providers across Michigan to obtain Patient Reported Outcome (PRO) for patients who have undergone a hip or knee joint replacement. These questionnaires are very important tools that help providers better care for their patients. PROS collection also helps other patients across Michigan who will have future joint replacements.

While a doctor can judge the clinical outcome of the surgery, only the patient can convey how much they have improved after surgery. Patients will be asked to complete a questionnaire about how their health and lifestyle have been affected by hip or knee pain and/or stiffness. The questionnaires that MARCQI collects are the PROMIS-10, HOOS JR or KOOS JR, two questions regarding Opioid Use and three supplemental questions recommended by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service (CMS).

Questionnaire Specifics

The patient must be 18 years of age or older and who are scheduled for a hip or knee arthroplasty. This includes the following scheduled, elective cases:

  • Total and partial knee arthroplasties including revisions
  • Total hip arthroplasties including revisions

The questionnaire contains 21-22 questions depending on which joint is being replaced and will take about 3-4 minutes for a patient to complete.

MARCQI PRO Collection Intervals:

  • Within 90 days before surgery
  • 2-16 Weeks (14-112 Days) after surgery
  • 4-6 Months (113-181 Days) after surgery
  • 1 Year (182-546 Days) after surgery
