Brian Hallstrom, MD

 

Brian Hallstrom, MD is the Program Director of MARCQI and previously served as Co-Director of MARCQI. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Hallstrom received his medical degree from Boston University before completing a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Michigan. He completed an adult reconstruction fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital before returning to Ann Arbor to practice at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He joined the University of Michigan faculty in 2008.

 

Elizabeth Dailey, MD

 

Elizabeth Dailey, MD serves as the ASC Physician Lead for MARCQI, creating quality improvement resources and guidance for surgery centers performing joint replacements across the state of Michigan. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Dailey received her medical degree from the University of Illinois, and completed her residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Washington. She completed an adult reconstruction fellowship at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Dailey operated in private practice in Marin County, California for six years before returning to the midwest in 2020.

 

Tae Kim

Tae Kim, MHSA

Tae Kim is the Senior Project Manager for MARCQI. She received her BS and MHSA from The University of Michigan. Tae comes to MARCQI from the Michigan Urological Surgery Improvement Collaborative, MUSIC. She led their surgical outcomes initiatives (peri-operative, oncologic and patient reported outcomes, skills outcomes, skill workshops, video library). Tae has developed patient education and physician support materials along with launching two new initiatives within the urology collaborative. She joined MARCQI in 2019.

 

Richard E. Hughes, PhD

Richard E. Hughes, PhD is a Senior Advisor for MARCQI and previously served as Co-Director of MARCQI. He is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Biomedical Engineering, and Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Princeton University and PhD from the University of Michigan. Prior to joining the University of Michigan faculty in 1998, he worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in orthopaedic biomechanics.

 

Devon MetivaDevon Larese, MSN,
AGCNS-BC

 

Devon Larese is the Assistant Site Support Manager for MARCQI. Her background is in nursing, with a BSN from Lake Superior State University, MSN from Michigan State University, and certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Devon’s experience in clinical quality improvement and nursing education has allowed her to support our sites’ work in data abstraction and quality, while continuously aiming to streamline delivery methods for education. Devon joined the team in 2021.

 

 

Thomas Zheng, PhD

Thomas Zheng, PhD, MS, MSE

 

Thomas (Huiyong) Zheng is the Technical Statistical Lead for MARCQI. He received his BS, MS in Mathematics and PhD in Control Theory (NPU China) and post-doctoral in Scientific Computing (Tsinghua University China). He completed his post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Michigan. Prior to joining MARCQI, Thomas served as a Senior Staff and faculty member in Biostatistics and Associate Research Scientist in the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan. He contributes to MARCQI participant reports, publications and statistical methodology. He joined MARCQI in 2016.

 

Qi Zhu

Qi Zhu, MS

 

Qi Zhu is the Database Manager for MARCQI. Qi received his BS from Hohai University, China and 2 masters’ degrees from Michigan State in Electrical Engineering and Statistics. He brings more than ten years of experience in data management and healthcare claims data analysis to MARCQI. He works directly on the quarterly reports, quality metrics and performance, and ensuring data quality for MARCQI participating sites. He joined MARCQI in 2019.

 

Ya Tuo, MS

Ya Tuo is the Statistician Lead for MARCQI. She received her BS in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, and MS in Statistics from the University of Vermont. Prior to joining MARCQI, Ya served as a Statistician Sr. at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. With over five years of experience in clinical research and an interest in turning healthcare data into meaningful insights, Ya joined MARCQI in 2024.

 

 

Lisheng Chen

Lisheng Chen, PhD

Lisheng Chen joins MARCQI as a statistician. He received his PhD in Genetics from Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. Prior to joining MARCQI, he was a senior research specialist in the department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences with extensive experience in basic medical research. He is currently in the master program of applied statistics in Eastern Michigan University. Lisheng has strong interests in the application of data science in healthcare field. He joined the MARCQI team in 2023.

 

 

Joe Brooks

Joe Brooks, MSML

Joe Brooks is one of MARCQI’s Clinical Quality Assurance Coordinators. Joe received both his Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management and Master of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governors University. He has over 20 years of clinical anesthesia experience encompassing roles in clinical training, leadership, and research. He designed a nationally recognized Anesthesia Technology program and developed best-practices for intraoperative blood salvage for major surgical procedures. He has a keen interest in improving quality and clinical outcomes. Joe joined the team in 2021.

 

Sara Koraleski

Sara Hayward, RHIT

 

Sara Hayward is one of MARCQI’s Clinical Quality Assurance Coordinators. She is a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Sara has four years of infection prevention experience specializing in surgical site infection surveillance and reporting. She also worked on the Epic infection prevention software; implementing and supporting the application for a multi-state healthcare system. Sara joined the MARCQI team in 2021.

 

Alex Wong, DAT, AT

 

Alex Wong is one of MARCQI’s Clinical Quality Assurance Coordinators. He received his BS from the University of New Hampshire, MS from the University of Oregon and his Doctorate in Athletic Training from A.T. Still University. A valued member of the athletic healthcare community for over 20 years, Alex brings extensive integrated sports medicine experience to MARCQI. Alex has also served as an instructor and clinical preceptor for numerous athletic training education programs. He joined the MARCQI team in 2022.

 

 

Eileen Creutz, BSN, RN

 

Eileen Creutz is on of MARCQI’s Site Support Coordinators. She received her BSN from Grand Valley State University’s School of Nursing. Prior to joining the MARCQI Coordinating Center, she was a member of the Michigan Hospital Medicine Safety (HMS) Collaborative Quality Initiative where she co-led the Sepsis Initiative focused on early intervention and post-discharge follow-up & support. Eileen worked as a Registered Nurse at Michigan Medicine’s Intermediate Care Unit for 7 years. Her clinical expertise includes management of both invasive & non-invasive ventilated patients, artificial airways, pre-and post-lung transplants, and acutely ill surgical patients. She joined the team in 2024.

 

Debbie Klinger, MS, AT

Debbie Klinger is one of MARCQI’s Site Support Coordinators. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Western Michigan University and holds a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training from Illinois State University. Debbie has three decades of experience in health care, working in North Dakota, Kentucky, and Michigan. She collaborated with orthopedic faculty and physical therapy colleagues to provide clinical rehabilitation to diverse patient populations and provided on-site athletic training services to high school and collegiate athletes. She joined MARCQI in 2024.

 

Jeanette Lamphere

Jeanette Lamphere, MA, CHES

Jeanette Lamphere is one of MARCQI’s Site Support Coordinators. She holds a BA in Business from Spring Arbor University, an MA in Health Education from The University of Alabama, and CHES certification from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. As a former Manager of Clinic Operations and NACHRI representative at Michigan Medicine, Jeanette has collaborated on a wide variety of clinical quality improvement initiatives. She brings two decades of experience in health and wellness program development, implementation, education, and evaluation. Jeanette joined the MARCQI team in 2023.

 

Anne Kagay-Lidster

Anne Kagay-Lidster

Anne Kagay-Lidster is the Administrative Assistant for MARCQI. Anne received her Associates Degree from Washtenaw Community College in Visual Arts (Photography, Graphic and Web Design). In her previous position as a Lead Research Technician, she provided support to engineering projects with data processing, report preparation, and logistics. Anne joined the Coordinating Center staff in 2014.
